The two-game Championship Round was one of the most thrilling GHTBL Championship Finals in recent memory. Both games came down to the very last pitch, in walk-off fashion.

It’s the team’s second consecutive postseason championship (2025 & 2026).

Since 1976, Tom Abbruzzese has managed the same franchise that took on several names. Abbruzzese initially managed Society for Savings Bank in the Jaycee-Courant League before bringing them up to the GHTBL. The “Bankers” have had elite players like David Gale, Kevin Gieras, Steve Cannata and Rob Arkus.

Society for Savings eventually became Bank of Boston and then People’s Bank in 2000.

Abbruzzese’s franchise, now called M&T Bank, has recorded a total of eight Season Titles and eleven Playoff Championships.

By all accounts, Abbruzzese’s franchise has been one of the top amateur clubs in the state for at least five decades.

Next year, the Bankers will seek a trifecta and Coach “Bru” will be going into his 52nd twilight league season.
