The Bat and Ball - May 1, 1867

The Bat and Ball” is the world’s first known baseball periodical. The publication sold for 5 cents a copy on the streets of Hartford and was delivered for 50 cents for 14 issues. The Bat and Ball was devoted exclusively to ''base ball'' happenings throughout the country (apart from a column on cricket) during the post-Civil War era when the sport, still in its infancy, was becoming increasingly more popular and fans demanded closer coverage of the sport.
